A Beautiful Baptism at the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral: Capturing Intimate Moments for a Family in NYC

As a family photographer, one of the greatest joys is being invited to capture the most important milestones in a family’s life. Recently, I had the honor of photographing a beautiful baptism for a family and their daughter, held at the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral in the heart of New York City. It was a private and intimate ceremony, attended by close family and friends, and the day was filled with love, faith, and celebration.

The Ceremony at the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral

The Armenian Apostolic Cathedral is a stunning and historic space. Its high ceilings, intricate details, and warm atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for this sacred moment. As a photographer, my goal was to respect the sanctity of the event while capturing the genuine emotions and quiet beauty of the ceremony. 

From the soft glow of candlelight to the meaningful moments as the priest blessed the child, the atmosphere was serene and deeply moving. I took a candid approach, documenting the natural expressions of the family—the proud smiles of the parents, the affectionate gazes of grandparents, and the joy shared among siblings and cousins. Each shot told the story of a day centered around faith, tradition, and togetherness.

Reception at Maiella in Long Island City

After the ceremony, we headed to Maiella in Long Island City for a small reception. With its elegant decor and breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline, Maiella provided the perfect contrast to the peaceful intimacy of the cathedral. The guests enjoyed a lovely meal while reminiscing, laughing, and sharing this precious moment together.

At the reception, I took the opportunity to capture some candid moments of the family interacting with one another, as well as a few posed portraits. We stepped outside to make the most of the stunning city backdrop, using the iconic skyline to create timeless portraits of the parents and their daughter. The soft light of the late afternoon made everything feel magical.

Capturing Authentic Family Moments

What I loved most about this day was the authenticity of the moments. While there were some posed portraits, most of the photos were candid—showcasing the unfiltered emotion and connection that only a close-knit family can share. From the warm embraces to the quiet moments of reflection, each photo captures the essence of the day: love, family, and tradition.

As a photographer, these are the kinds of moments I cherish capturing—those that feel genuine, timeless, and full of meaning. I’m grateful to this wonderful family for allowing me to document their daughter’s baptism and for trusting me to tell their story through my lens.
